Huh, that's interesting. I didn't even know that, and it is certainly not a novelWriter feature. It probably comes from the Qt framework itself. 😃 |

This isn't really a suggestion for a new feature - it's just a handy way to use the existing novelWriter functinoality...
I just stumbled upon this idea being brand new to NW (as such this may be well-known by experienced gurus):
If you rename "Chapter 1" "Chapter 2" "Chapter 3" etc. to "1st Chapter" "2nd Chapter" "3rd Chapter" etc., then you can instantly navigate to each location by simply typing the numbers: 1, 2, 3, etc. Great short cut for getting around your chapters - from there you can arrow down into individual scenes/subheadings.
I came upon this by noticing that typing an individual letter key while in the Project Content panel will bring you to descend successively to each doc that starts with that particular letter. (Haven't found a reverse order key combo, i.e., ascend upwards in the listing).
This prompted me to wonder if the plain numbers 1,2,3... could be used in a similar manner - and indeed they can. One simply needs to start the name of a doc with each respective numeral.
Of course you could use the numbers anywhere - doesn't have to be bookmarking the chapter docs. (And you could choose a letter - say, "z" - to start the name on one or more documents in the project that you wanted to get to simply by typing the letter "z")
Again, this may be old news to veteran users, but it was pleasant revelation to me as a newbie.
Hope this idea is useful to others looking to add an additional navigation shortcut to their project. 🖖
