Automatically re-enable HDR

I'm a happy user of the pro version on ventura 13.2. For reasons unknown macOS likes to disable HDR on my external display (an LG C9) frequently after switching display inputs or waking the mac from sleep. Would it be possible to introduce some sort of automation that turns HDR back on when the display is connected?

There is a Config Protection option that is supposed to protect the last HDR setting made using the app. Did you try that? If yes and does not work, let me know!

I have been using BetterDisplay Pro (1.4.6 Build 14593) now some weeks, every time I connect the computer to the TV (my main monitor) I need to re-enable HDR. I have set Config protection to keep the HDR setting but it does not work for me. After reconnecting the TV, the HDR is disabled. It shows a toggle in HDR config protection but it is "Protect HDR Status (HDR Off)". When I set manually HDR On, config protection shows the correct toggle "Protect HDR Status (HDR On)". But again, when the TV is reconnected, protection has changed to "Protect HDR Status (HDR Off)" and HDR is disabled.

Protection for Resolution and Refresh rate is working fine. I'm not sure if this could be related to the fact that I have set Configuration override to default resolution 2304x1296@120hz that I'm using. Would it make sense to add HDR to the configuration override?

Let me know if you need some log files, etc.

Hardware:

• Macbook Pro 14" M1
• Cable Matters DP->HDMI Adapter 201388-GRY with Chip VMM6100
• TV Sony A80J OLED, customized EDID to support 4K@120hz HDR 4:4:4

The issue is probably related to the EDID override - when the override is not present, the OS falls back to the 60Hz non-HDR mode and the app keeps remembering that. I updated how this works for the resolution and refresh rate in v1.4.6, but not for HDR status. You might want to add a GitHub Issue describing the problem, I'll take a look and fix this. I still don't have my 20388-GRY adapter to test (ordered one already), but I'll do some testing and fix the issue.

Hi there, just got my 201388-GRY with Chip VMM6100. I have the same issue, HDR is not enforced properly. I'll fix this in an update!

I have also another problem with my configuration, my Sony TV does not usually detect HDMI connection. This happens daily after reconnecting. The fix is to change some configurations to re-initialize the connection, e.g. resolution or HDR change. Sometimes I need to do that several times.

The computer, however detects the TV and everything is normal from the computer side, TV is shown in Displays and I can move the mouse cursor to another screen.

I'm just not sure what is a weak link on here, Sony TV, 01388-GRY, or my 5m HDMI 2.1 cable. I tried also a shorter HDMI 2.1 cable but same issue. I do not know if you can do anything about this issue. But I let you know if you have the same problem with your new adapter and it can be somehow fixed on the software side.

All right! I don't have long term experience, so far did not have a problem like this but went through four HDMI cables until the thing worked reliably so it might be a cable/negotiation issue.
