Hi man,
Didn't test this yet but i will once i get home.
This project is so much wanted, because no one actually done this. There are some option but not in browser, which is making you dependent on hardware/software.
So as ideeas if you want to continue with this project, i suggest:

1. Integrate with opensusbtitles for automatically fetching and play with subtitles.
2. Load the subtitle manually from you PC.
3. Subtitle sync in case you need to delay it or take it further.
4. A chrome context menu to right click and send to castnow-webserver.
5. Some check options if you want to transcode audio/video to compatible format.
