zen30 direct association to itself (dimmer to relay)

Is it possible to directly associate the dimmer paddle to the relay on the same switch? I'm getting "Association not allowed: Forbidden_SelfAssociation". I know I could just hit the relay switch but I don't want to have to explain this to guests. The relay is controlling outlets which is why I chose this particular switch.

Not possible. Associations involve sending commands to the target, but a device cannot send to itself.
You could ask Zooz if they are willing to add a configuration parameter to link the two.
