For the Visa in Nairobi: we need a single-entry standard tourist visa. Our first address is:
Kiloranhouse Cottage
3rd Rt Kitale Lane
Nairobi
25kg max. That's the max we can bring on the flights within Africa. Otherwise you'll need to pay extra.
- Passport
- Visa
- Vaccination card (again: see your doctor / tropical disease specialist (in Germany: there is one on duty at every Globetrotter shop) ASAP to avoid having to deal with side effects from different vaccinations at once. If your yellow fever vaccination is less than 10 days old old, entry can be refused)
- Medication (especially Malaria: get information! Get medication from (certified) pharmacy at home (sometimes more expensive) or in Africa (sometimes fake - which might be a marketing trick from pharma lobby, or might be true))
- Mosquito repellent (get at home or in Africa. Should contain DEET, as disgusting as that is. Do not use Autan)
- Torch (better: head lamp - gives you 2 free hands..)
- Ear plugs
- Adapter (+ multiple socket, if you want to plug in more than one device)
- Knife or multi-tool
- Lighter
- Rain jacket
- Trunks / bikini
- Condoms
- Music! Make playlists, listening to a whole album from one artist when road tripping just sucks
- add more ...
- First Aid Kit (one well-equipped one for everybody, not 12 seperate small ones?)
- Cinch, maybe speakers for playing music
- add more ...
- get Kindles (or another ebook reader) packed with current Tech Books and leave them as present in any Hub that we visit.
- Use seperate plastic bags / boxes to protect stuff from humidity (super safe option: put a wisemini (or similar) in the box as well)
- Scan all your documents and put them in a Dropbox or similar (old school: put copies in your check-in bag)
- Have some pictures of your loved ones, or your adventures, or how you live at home, or what your work space looks like, or whatever is important to you and you expect to be telling people about. Bring either non-digital old-school print outs, or have them saved on your cell - people love seeing that stuff (as you would, too, otherwise you wouldn't be going on this trip) and it's nice to not have to get your laptop out or rely on a working internet connection every time you want to show someone a photo.
- add more ...
- Mosquito net
- If you do soemthing really off the beaten track: water purification (tablets, UV.. whatever you like)
- Short rope (sounds silly, but has proved to come in extremely handy quite often)
- Bandana (same)
- Hat / something to protect your head and neck from the sun
- Hiking boots (break them in before trip!)
- (Light) shirt with long sleeves, (light) pants with long legs, both muted colours, for dusk
- Clothes in muted colours (tan, khaki, brown) that don't scare the animals away on safari
- Binoculars (good telephoto lens on camera)
- Candles
- Map
