Based on the sensitivity analysis of both parameters and processes by Mai et al. 2022, the research datastream will diversify the single CONUS realization file to be both space and time dependent. For now, space is divvied up into VPUs and time into months. There is no reason this should remain the case forever, just seems to be a reasonable starting point based on Figure 4.
