Introduction

This is the documentation for the conversion of the Metropolitan Council's Travel Demand Model from TourCast to ActivitySim. ActivitySim is an activity-based model platform that models the demand for transportation in the region. ActivitySim (will be) setup to run within a script that also includes using Cube Voyager to model the supply of transportation facilities in the region.

Overall Model Run Process

The Metropolitan Council Model runs in a command shell via a batch file. This batch file sets up tokens that are utilized throughout the model run, and various processes in Cube and Python, including ActivitySim.

The batch process is described on the following pages:

Part 1: Network Processing and Skimming

Part 2: ActivitySim

Part 3: Airport and Freight Models

Part 4: Network Assignment

About ActivitySim

The mission of the ActivitySim project is to create and maintain advanced, open-source, activity-based travel behavior modeling software based on best software development practices for distribution at no charge to the public.

The ActivitySim project is led by a consortium of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), Departments of Transportation (DOTs), and other transportation planning agencies, including the Metropolitan Council. These member agencies provide technical direction and resources to support project development. New member agencies are welcome to join the consortium. All member agencies help make decisions about development priorities and benefit from contributions of other agency partners.
