Common acronyms may be used without definition anywhere in the application, system, and related wiki pages or online project documentation. In printed documents, define each on first use.
- LCTA: Linn County Trails Association. The organization that maintains and runs the majority of the trails system.
- MTM: Mobile Trail Mapping. Commonly used as a short name for the project as a whole; may be used in front of “application” or “system” to denote specifically the software under development, or in front of “team” to denote the development team from Rose-Hulman
- Trail, trails, and trails system
- When referring to the entire set of trails in Linn County for which the MTM application is being developed, use “trails system” (plural trails)
- When referring to a single trail or set of trails, use “trail” or “trails” as normal
- When referring to items or information related to the trails system, pluralize based on the number of trails affected, e.g. a single trail has “trail markers,” but many trails have “trails-related information.”
- Mobile platforms
- “iPhone,” “iPad,” and “iPod Touch” should all follow Apple usage guidelines (namely, that the “i” leading each one be lowercased, even at the beginning of sentences).
- “App Store” must likewise always appear capitalized, in deference to Apple guidelines. When referring to the MTM application specifically for iPhone and iPod Touch, lowercase “app” may be used.
- “Android” must always be capitalized when in reference to either the mobile operating system, development platform, or application ecosystem.
