View Assist Custom Sentences Gallery

View Assist is easily extendable by adding custom sentences which provide data to different custom views. On this page you will find a gallery of premade custom sentences. You will find links to the requirements and installation instructions. Blueprints have been made available for easy installation. All custom sentence blueprint require that Stream Assist user have version 2.1.0 or greater.

Ask AI

• Description: This custom sentence allows for an on demand call to OpenAI for answering questions about life, love and happiness. Seriously though, this allows the user to use LLM to get answers to questions and greatly simplifies the need for coding a lot of these things by hand. Be warned, though. LLMs are known to provide bogus answers sometimes so use with caution.

• Usage: User says "Ask AI" plus the question to be answered

• Requirements:

  • View: Info view
  • Integrations: Open AI Conversation
  • API Key: A paid API key is required

Broadcast

• Description: This custom sentence will sound an alert sound and broadcast an audio message to all View Assist satellites that are not in do not disturb mode. The text version of the message will appear on the screens of all View Assist satellites with displays that are not in hold mode.

• Usage: User says "Broadcast" plus the message to broadcast

How's the weather

• Description: Allows user to request current weather conditions and see those conditions and forecast

• Usage: User says "How's the weather"

• Requirements:

  • View: Weather view

Spell a Word

• Description: Allows user to ask for the spelling of a word or phrase and Assist will spell the word and show the spelling

• Usage: User says "How do you spell [WORD]"

List Management

• Description: Allows user to add and remove items from a shopping list. User can also request to show the shopping list and it will be displayed on View Assist satellite devices with displays.

• Usage: User says "Add bread to my shopping list", "Remove eggs from shopping list", "Show me my shopping list", etc

Show Webpage

• Description: Shows a webpage of the users choosing by configuring the website url, command text trigger, response text, and whether to set device to hold mode to avoid interrupted surfing.

• Usage: User says "Browse Home Assistant" or "Show my recipes" or similar and the web page opens in hold mode

Search Wikipedia

• Description: User can search for general knowledge questions on people, places, things, etc on Wikipedia

• Usage: User says "Search for [keyword]" or "Tell me about [keyword]" and results will be spoken and shown on view enabled devices

• Requirements:

  • View: Info, Infopic
  • Extension: Pyscript installed via HACS Install video
