🧙 WordWizard

Welcome to WordWizard, a cross-platform desktop application designed to evaluate word reading speed.

Overview

WordWizard is a tool primarily designed for educators, providing a simple and engaging way for students to improve their reading skills. The application presents a list of words to the student, recording the time taken to read them. This allows for a quantifiable measure of a student's reading speed, aiding in their linguistic development.

Technical Stack

WordWizard is built using a robust and modern tech stack:

  • Rust: A language empowering everyone to build reliable and efficient software.
  • React: A JavaScript library for building user interfaces.
  • Tauri: A framework for building lightweight, secure desktop apps with web technologies.
  • Mantine: A React components and hooks library for building flawless user interfaces.

Building and Running Locally

To run WordWizard locally, follow these steps:

  • Ensure you have Rust and Node.js installed on your machine.
  • Clone this repository to your local machine.
  • Install the necessary dependencies with yarn install.
  • Start the development server with yarn dev tauri.
  • For more detailed instructions, refer to the Tauri setup guide.

Binaries

Pre-built binaries for WordWizard are available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. You can download the latest release from here. Please note that these binaries are not signed, so you may need to bypass security warnings on your system. Also the app is still very much in Alpha stage, so expect bugs and missing features. Also your data might be lost after you update.
