Hugo generated website. Uses the extended version of hugo to compile SCSS.
Ensure you have hugo up and running as per their installation guide.
Run hugo server -D
.
In the browser go to http://localhost:1313
.
Follow the folder structure already in place in content/posts/
. Add all images, videos, etc. to that folder.
When using images use the shortcode {{< image-resize YOUR-IMAGE.EXT >}}
so that hugo can automatically resize it.
If you want to create a row with three images use {{< triple-image-thumbnail "YOUR-IMAGE1.EXT" "YOUR-IMAGE2.EXT" "YOUR-IMAGE3.EXT" >}}
. This uses smart fill where it will focus on the main part of the image. If you don't like the outcome then you might want to use the alternative shortcode:
{{< triple-image-thumbnail-scaled "YOUR-IMAGE1.EXT" "YOUR-IMAGE2.EXT" "YOUR-IMAGE3.EXT" >}}
. This shows the full image but scales it down to fit three in a row.
The site automatically regenerates itself using github actions when a push or merge happens on master
.
Check the config.toml
file that the language has been added. It not then follow the format and add a new language section.
Create translations by copying the post then renaming it to include the language code. For example, in a folder with index.md
you would create a translation by creating a new file called index.ru.md
where ru
is the language code for the translation.
A tweet will be automatically sent out if the last git commit message to the master branch has Tweet:
anywhere in the message. Anything after that search expression will be posted as a tweet. Include the url if you are linking a blog post (it will be https://www.empiresmod.com/posts/<name of folder that contains post>
)
When making a new post, it's worth bearing in mind how sites like Reddit and Discord are going to embed a link. By default it will use the first image in the page, or the image that is called featured.<ext>
. It will use the title
and description
info in the metadata at the top of the post, so fill these in if you don't want the first sentence being used as the description.
