The splitting option is only available to instructors who teach multiple sections within the same course. The instructor can choose to split the sections within the same Moodle course into separate Moodle courses.

The instructor can also name the splits, like MWF and TTH to identify the split courses from a pool of courses. This setting can be edited or reversed, so there's no harm in playing with configurations.
