Rollup release

This includes a number of changes from the community on GitHub, plus some changes of my own, mostly limited to build system and dependency tweaks.

These are the binaries generated with ./gradlew build, which differ substantially from earlier, upstream ones: dependency jars are shipped separately and accessed using a launch script, instead of being bundled into one jar. Also, there's no fancy installer or launcher with icons - just a shell script or batch file. Still, should be useful, and importantly it's much easier to actually make such a release.
