Welcome to the official Github of the UW Cartography Lab! This is where the lab creates and archives web projects, and makes all associated source code public. The Table of Contents below lists individual repositories, along with brief descriptions. Most of the source code for web mapping projects is used as a backup.

• Scrollmap

  • An HTML wrapper/lightweight javascript library for creating scrolling storymaps. Used in Geography 572: Graphic Design in Cartography at UW-Madison.

• Mapping SDGs

  • Figure and data archive for Mapping a Sustainable World, an open access cartography book teaching the principles of cartography through the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

      • Using the data from Mapping a Sustainable World, these tutorials demonstrating map design using the open access mapping software QGIS.

• Sample Web Portfolio

  • A template for creating a web portfolio. Used in Geography 572: Graphic Design in Cartography at UW-Madison.

• HTML to MD

  • Web application for converting HTML files into Markdown (MD) and vice versa. Usable for more seamless integration between Github and Learning Management Systems like Canvas.

• Coastal Erosion

  • Coastal erosion calculator for the Lake Michigan shoreline in Central Wisconsin. The full site can be viewed here.

• East River Flood Map

  • A mapping tool designed to inform residents of the East River (Wisconsin) watershed about flooding.

• Flyover Country Visualization Suite

  • The Flyover Country Visualization Suite (FCVS) is a multivariate visualization Javascript library currently built on Leaflet for integration into the (Flyover Country)[https://flyovercountry.io/] mobile app.

• Global Madison

  • Source code for the (Global Madison)[https://geography.wisc.edu/globalmadison/#] instructional app.

  • Instructional README to guide the developer into editing/updating the Tambopata website.
