My name is Verena and I am currently a CONICET Assistant Researcher at the Northeast Botany Institute and North-eastern National University. My research focusses on how uniparental reproductive strategies (like apomixis or selfing) “help” in the origin and establishment of agamic and polyploid complexes in grasses.
🎓I gained my Ph.D. in Biology at the Cordoba National University when working in the Genetics and Improvement of Forage Species Lab. During my Ph.D, I studied the population structure of Paspalum (Poaceae) species with divergent genetic systems.
🌾🧬Genetic systems in Paspalum comprise a varying number of ploidy levels (from 2x to 16x) and contrasting reproductive modes (sexuality and/or apomixis) and mating systems (selfing vs outcrossing vs mixed-mating systems).
I’m currently working on this site while learning how to update it…
