How to use SMS

Learning the SMS with video tutorials

If you are more of a fan of learning the functionality of a new tool via video tutorials, then take a look at our new videos on the first steps in SMS. We are striving to constantly expand this column -> follow here

SMS window overview

The sensor management system starts with an introductory page in which the essential functionalities are listed:

  • Devices (things that can measure),
  • Platforms (things that doesn't measure themselves) and
  • Configurations (measurement setups in the real world that are build from devices & platforms).
  • Sites and Labs (manage sites/laboratories/locations that are attached to a configuration)

For each there is some description texts, links to the search pages, as well as the current number of existing entries within the SMS.

A sidebar menu takes you to the various main areas as well.

The lower part contains the legal links and contact links, interfaces, the git repository and the OpenAPI specification. You can also use the questionmark symbol to use the gitlab help desk & send information for the developers & maintainers of the system in case you have issues or suggestions for further improvements.

After login you can also see the latest activites (new entries, updates, etc.).

Sidebar menu

The sensor management module menu is divided into the following areas, which are described in more detail in the following chapters. You can access the different areas via the sidebar on the left side of the window. The sidebar can be reached during the entire use of the SMS. If the menu is closed, it can be opened via the hamburger menu-icon.
